Review: Along for the Ride

Along for the Ride
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A girl from a dysfunctional family lives a quiet life on the outside of teen society. A boy you can't help but want to know more about. Girl friends that possess wisdom beyond their years. Classic Sarah Dessen.

What amazes me is that all of her books follow this format yet I enjoy them all! I wish there had been books like this when I was a teen!

Review: Just Listen

Just Listen
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love this book. Owen is one of my most-loved characters ever. I'd love to have another book with him! The sisters are good, too, but Owen stole the show for me. As always, Sarah Dessen is awesome. I wish that books like this had existed when I was a teenager. Even as as adult I enjoy her books.

In this book, Annabel finds herself friendless at the start of school and realizes how lonely she is. Owen, another outcast, helps her understand her life by understanding herself. By the end of the story readers discover the lives of each of the sisters and the secrets they have held. Excellent story and relatively happy.

Review: Lock and Key

Lock and Key
Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sarah Dessen is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This is the second book of hers that I've read and I have already requested another one at the library. Ruby is original and vibrant and locked inside herself, afraid to make friends, fall in love or be real. The book chronicles a year of her life, in which we are able to watch her change and enjoy the new Ruby she discovers inside. Excellent storyline.

Review: Dream When You're Feeling Blue

Dream When You're Feeling Blue
Dream When You're Feeling Blue by Elizabeth Berg

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love reading Elizabeth Berg. She has a way with words that make me feel as if I'm in the story. This book was excellent - the timeline, the story of the women left behind during the war, the life of the soldiers, the letters from the war, the slang. Had the book ended one chapter earlier, it would have been a 5 star book. I am so confused by the end, however, as it makes no sense that the story would have (or even could have) ended that way. A 5 star book with a 2 star ending.

Review: What Happened to Goodbye

What Happened to Goodbye
What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really liked this book and will look for another Sarah Dessen on my next trip to the library! McLean is a teenager without a home and with a habit of redesigning herself with every relocation. Even though we only hear about previous personas in passing, I was hooked by the idea. Who hasn't wanted a chance to reinvent themself at one time? As the story evolved and McLean changed, her relationships were able to change and the final result (the end of the book) was satisfyingly 'right' for her, her friends and her family. Excellent book!
